What does Low Carb Mean?

Generally, for a food item to be considered low-carb it should have 20 grams or less of carbohydrates per serving. A low-carb meal should have less than 30 grams. That can seem like an impossible task on Thanksgiving but it is definitely do-able. Just focus on eating lots of non starchy vegetables. You can also eat fruit (and even dessert), as long as they’re the right kinds — avoid tropical fruits like pineapple and mango, which are higher in natural sugars.

According to the calorie council, the average calorie intake on Thanksgiving is 4,500 calories. If approximately 50 percent of those Thanksgiving calories come from carbohydrates, that adds up to 563 grams of carbohydrate.

How do you eat Thanksgiving Keto?

If you’re unfamiliar with a keto diet, here’s the quick explanation: It’s extremely low in carbohydrates and high in fat. Meat, including turkey with skin, is fine to consume, but other Thanksgiving staples aren’t. Mashed potatoes are off limits, along with bread stuffing, rolls, sugary cranberry sauce and desserts are dishes that aren’t the best to consume on a low-carb diet.

Are mashed potatoes full of carbs?

A serving of mashed potatoes offers a small amount of protein — about 2 grams — and 18 grams of carbohydrate. Of those carbs, roughly 2 grams are from fiber, or about 6 percent of the daily value.

Which has more carbs stuffing or mashed potatoes?

Stuffing is usually based around white bread or corn bread, both of which are high in carbs and low in fiber, and the dish quickly becomes a sodium bomb thanks to all the stock used to make it. While mashed potato recipes often include milk and butter, you can make the dish into a healthier choice.
