There’s no doubt that bananas are one of the most popular fruits in the United States. People love to eat bananas but there is a lot of debate on when you should eat your bananas. In this article I’m going to go over the benefits of eating banana on an empty stomach in the morning and why it’s best to eat bananas before other foods.

The main reason it’s best to eat bananas on an empty stomach is so that your body can digest them quickly without causing gas or bloating. I’ll deep dive into these two reasons below.

Food Combining: Bananas Digest Fast

Different food groups combine at different rates of time. Not only do they digest at different speeds but they use different enzymes to break them down. By eating foods that digest at the same rate of time and by the same types of enzymes you will speed up your metabolism and improve digestion and nutrient absorbtion.

Bananas are one of the quickest digesting foods. Banaas are broken down by the small intestine and stomach in only 45 minutes. That means that from the moment you eat a banana you’re body will be able to use the carbohydrates in the banana to fill your glycogen stores with usable energy in only 45 minutes.

Since bananas provide a quick burst of energy they’re great to eat as a recovery food after workouts.

Most other foods take much longer to digest. For example vegetables take an hour while starches and proteins can take four or more hours. IF you eat bananas after you’ve had other heavier foods the banana will rot on top of these other foods before it can digest. This will lead to bloating, gas and constipation.

This is what happens when you eat bananas on a full stomach. The sugar in the bananas will start to putrefy before your body can digest it. During the putrefaction process the banana will give off gas.

On top of the purification organisms that live in the gut like yeast, bacteria and parasites will eat the sugar from the banana. When they eat the sugar this will allow them to multiply. When pathogens eat the sugar from bananas they multiply. Their reproductive process causes more gas and bloating.

What is the Best Time to Eat Bananas?

The best time to eat bananas is in the morning or on an empty stomach. Make sure that you haven’t eaten other foods for 2-4 hours before you eat a banana.

After A Workout

Since bananas provide a quick burst of energy they’re great to eat as a recovery food after workouts.

Which Food Is Best To Eat On An Empty Stomach?

The best food to eat on an empty stomach are vegetable juices and fruits.

fruit is the best food to eat on an empty stomach because fruits are easy to digest. Not to mention that they’ve chuck full of water, vitamins, minerals and enzymes.

Fruit is the perfect food for humans because it’s easy to eat the whole thing and falls off a tree when it’s ripe. This perfect breakfast food also fits in the palm of your hand so it’s ideal to just pick it up off the ground and eat it. In theory. These days we just open the fridge and grab a banana or some berries, to name a few.

Another reason it’s good to eat fruit first thing in the morning over other foods is because it doesn’t digest well with other food groups. Since fruit only takes 30 minutes to go though the small intestine, other foods that take longer would slow down the digestion time of the fruit and cause an upset stomach.

What About Bananas?

Bananas are a starchy fruit so they take 45 minutes to digest and they combine well with starches including:

  • avocados
  • toast
  • dried fruit
  • nuts.
  • oatmeal

When Is the Best Time to Eat Fruit

The best time of day to eat fruit it’s first thing in the morning since your stomach is empty. Fruit digests best on an empty stomach.

Health Benefits of Bananas

For instance bananas are good for heart health since they are high in potassium.

Bananas are also great for muscle recovery after an intense workout.

One banana has 3 grams of dietary fiber so they are good for gut health if you don’t have Candida or other fungal, bacterial, or parasite infestations.

How To Eat Bananas on an Empty Stomach in the Morning

There are lots of fun ways to eat bananas in the morning. Of course you can simply peel and eat the banana plain, but there are lots of fun ways to enjoy bananas.

Ways to Eat Bananas for Breakfast

  • Smoothies
  • Banana Pancakes
  • Bananas with Coconut Yogurt
  • Banana Chia Seed Pudding

Who Should Not Eat Bananas on an Empty Stomach?

There are a few people who should not eat bananas on an empty stomach. Although bananas are extremely healthy, they aren’t for everyone.

People with Kidney Disease

If you have renal disease or any problems with your kidneys you should not eat bananas. Although if your doctor allows you to eat bananas you can enjoy them in moderation. The reason people with kidney disease cannot eat bananas is because they’re high in potassium.

potassium levels need to be monitored because people with kidney disease cannot process potassium and it will build up in the blood.

Keto and Low Carb Diets

People following a low carb or keto diet cannot eat bananas because they are high in sugar and carbs. Eating bananas will blow you right out of ketosis by giving your body glycogen to burn for energy instead of ketones. The body prefers to burn carbs for energy than fat because it’s less work to break down.

If You Have Candida

Bananas are high in sugar so if you have a yeast infection or any kind of fungal issue bananas will feed that yeast and make it worse.
