Yes, vegans can eat guacamole since it’s typically made from only plant based ingredients. Guacamole is usually made from avocados, tomatoes, onions, lemon, lime, cilantro, pepper and salt!

Some guacamole recipes use non vegan dairy including sour cream or yogurt. There are a few ingredients that some vegans consider not to be vegan that can be found in store bought guacamole. Thats how white sugar’s super fine white color is achieved. Some brown sugar is also not vegan because the sugar was refined using the cow bones filtration system but then the color is added back in in the form of molasses.

Vinegar

Most people consider vinegar to be vegan. However some people use animal products in the process of using wine. So it may not be vegan. Generally though vinegar is vegan.

Sour Cream

Traditional sour cream is made from cow, sheep or goat’s milk. If you see sour cream as an ingredient in guacamole then it is not vegan. Keep in mind. that not all yogurt is made from dairy.

There are tons of vegan sour cream made from almonds, coconut, tofu, cashews, and more. If you see a package of guacamole labeled vegan but it has yogurt in it chances are it’s made with a vegan sour cream.

Yogurt

Traditional yogurt is made from cow, sheep or goat’s milk. If you see yogurt as an ingredient in guacamole then it is not vegan. Keep in mind. that not all yogurt is made from dairy.

There are tons of vegan yogurts made from almonds, coconut, tofu, cashews, and more. If you see a package of guacamole labeled vegan but it has yogurt in it chances are it’s made with a vegan yogurt.

Xantham Gum

Xantham gum is a “chain of sugar building blocks made by fermenting simple sugars with a specific kind of bacteria. It is sometimes used to make medicine and as a food preservative. While most vegans consider xantham gum to be vegan some type of it are made from whey protein.

Whey is a bi product of cheese making and is therefore not vegan. Strict vegans don’t eat xantham gum but the truth is that most vegans don’t even know that xantham gum may not be vegan.

If you are a vegan you need to decide if it’s O.K. for you. to eat products with xantham gum.

Milk

Milk is not vegan because it is a byproduct of a cow, sheep or goat.

Having guacamole for dinner is also a great idea if you have trouble sleeping.  The fats from the avocado will help your body feel full (but not heavy).  This will help you avoid getting hungry in the in the middle of the night and stumbling into the kitchen for a snack.  Eating in the middle of the night is not good for you because it adisregulates your Circadian rhythms
