  • Yeast
  • Egg
  • Salt
  • Agave (sugar)

Ingredient Substitutions for This Homemade Gluten Free Pizza Dough Recipe

Instead of agave you could use regular sugar or honey.

How to Make Easy Gluten Free Pizza Dough At Home Step By Step

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast and agave. Stir to combine and allow it to sit for five minutes or until the mixture starts to foam. This means the yeast have activated.
  • Step 2: Add the flour, egg, and salt. Stir to combine. Once a dough has formed turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes. Add more flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  • Step 3: Roll the dough out onto an oiled parchment paper in the shape of a square.

How To Assemble A Pizza with Gluten Free Pizza Crust

  • Step 1: Roll out the pizza dough onto an oil lined parchment paper until it’s one quarter of an inch thick
  • Step 2: Generously cover the dough with sauce and cheese.
  • Bake in the oven at 450 for 8 minutes or until the crust gets crispy and turns golden brown.

How to Make the Gluten-Free Pizza Dough

Quick Answer: You can make gluten free pizza dough the same way you would normally make regular dough. Using the ratio 65% of water to the amount of flour with 4% sugar, 2% yeast and 2% salt. Just swap out the regular all purpose flour for a gluten free blend and add 1 egg per 2-2 1/2 cups of regular flour.

It’s easy to make gluten free pizza dough! You would make it the same way you would regular dough. Just swap out the regular all purpose flour for an all purpose gluten free flour blend.

The only thing I like to add to my gluten free pizza dough is an egg. Since the dough doesn’t have any gluten in it, it is more crumbly and falls apart more easily than pizza dough made with regular flour.

I first tried to make this recipe without an egg but the dough was crumbling and too hard to roll out. Once I added 1 egg to the mixture it rolled out just as smoothly as regular pizza dough!

How Does Gluten Free Flour Affect Pizza Dough?

Gluten free flour affects pizza dough by making it harder to stretch by hand and makes it more crumbly. The best way to flatten pizza dough without gluten is to use a rolling pin. And to roll it out onto a greased piece of parchment paper.

Does Gluten Free Pizza Taste Different?

In my opinion gluten free pizza dough and regular pizza dough taste almost the same since pizza dough is traditionally very plain.

Is Gluten Free Pizza Crust Better Than Regular Pizza Crust?

The answer to this question is really a matter of opinion. I have to admit that I prefer regular pizza dough to gluten free. But gluten free dough is definitely healthier for you then regular dough because it’s easier to digest.

Gluten free pizza dough is especially better if you have celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. Since the regular pizza dough will certainly cause you to have an allergic reaction.

What Kind of Flours Are Used To Make Gluten Free Pizza Dough?

The same kinds of flours used to make gluten free bread are used to make gluten free pizza dough. Gluten Free bread flour is a replacement all purpose flour traditionally made with wheat. You can use any gluten free bread flour as a 1:1 replacement for traditional all purpose flour.

Let’s take a quick look at what kind of flour is best for gf pizza dough.

Ingredients In Gluten Free All Purpose Flour

  • Cornstarch
  • White Rice Flour
  • Brown Rice Flour
  • Tapioca Starch
  • Potato Starch
  • Sorghum Flour
  • Xantham Gum

These are not all of the types of flours that can be included in gluten free all purpose flour. Some others include chickpea flour, cassava flour etc. I just listed the most common ingredients.

Which Brand of Gluten Free Bread Flour Is Best?

This isn’t that original but I really like Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Flour. It’s one of the most commonly used gluten free all purpose flours. But that’s because it works so well.

How Do you Make Gluten Free Dough Stretchy?

The best way to make gluten free dough stretchy is to add an egg. When I was developing my gluten free pizza rolls recipe, I needed a dough that would stretch without breaking. Most gluten free dough is crumbly and not stretchy. Since it lacks the gluten structure to keep it together.

1 egg per 2-2 1/2 cups of flour acts as a binder and will allow the dough to be stretched and rolled more like normal pizza dough. Keep in mind that no matter what gluten free dough will never have the same consistency as regular pizza dough because it lacks the malleability gluten provides regular dough.

Can I Make Gluten Free Dough Ahead of Time?

Yes! In fact I recommend making your gluten free pizza dough ahead of time. When the dough has a few days to sit in the fridge it ferments. The fermentation process actually makes the dough taste better. Some of the best pizzas you’ll ever have are made with fermented dough.

Just like the Neapolitan pizza I made for mashed with fermented pizza dough. This pizza crust was by far one of the best I’ve ever had.

  • gluten-free pizza crust can be made up to 4 days in advance.

Do You Need To Use Olive Oil In Gluten Free Pizza Dough?

Olive oil adds nice flavor and elasticity to pizza dough but you don’t have to use it. I don’t use any olive oil in this pizza dough recipe but I do use it to grease the baking sheet I apply the dough to. I also line the cupcake tins with olive oil.

Can You Bake Gluten Free Pizza Crust Without A Pizza Stone?

Absolutely yes, you can bake gluten free pizza crust without a pizza stone. In fact, I do it all the time. I usually choose to use a baking sheet lined with parchment paper instead of a pizza stone.

Is Yeast Gluten Free?

Yes, commercial yeast is gluten free and safe to use for gluten free baking for people who have celiac disease or follow a gluten free diet.

Can I Freeze This GF Pizza Dough?

Yes you can freeze gluten free pizza dough. The best way to freeze gluten free pizza dough is to wrap it in plastic wrap and place it in a freezer safe bag. It will last for up to 3 months.

How to Fix Crumbly Gluten Free Pizza Dough?

If your gluten free pizza dough is too crumbly to roll out chances are it needs moisture. You can add another tablespoon of egg mixture or even a tablespoon of water. Add one tablespoon at a time until the dough is stretchy and doesn’t crumble when you try to roll it out.

Why Is The Gluten Free Dough So Sticky?

Got sticky dough? Then you need to add more flour. That’s why in the recipe card I wrote that you need between 2 and 2.5 cups of flour. When I added the egg the dough got too sticky so adding more flour fixed it. If your dough is sticky that means it’s too wet. Adding extra flour will help absorb the extra moisture so that your dough isn’t sticky.

Another way to combat sticky dough is to rub your hands and the outside of the dough with flour. Adding flour to the surface of both your hands and the dough will create a moisture barrier. That will keep the dough from sticking to your hands and work surface.
