What’s Popeyes Spicy Sauce Made of?

Even though you might love the great taste of Popeyes spicy mayo sauce, I don’t recommend eating it. Popeyes doesn’t even print the ingredients of their food on the website or on store menus. After some digging around I was able to find out exactly what spicy mayo is made from.

Authentic Popeyes Spicy Mayo Ingredients:

  • soybean oil, distilled vinegar, egg yolks water, sugar, salt, calcium disodium, monosodium glutamate, EDTA, natural flavor, capsicums, garlic, salt, calcium chloride, sodium benzoate and natural flavors.

So as you can see the spicy mayo sauce is completely riddled with preservatives including MSG (monosodium glutamate).

That’s why you should make this recipe at home. Not only will it be tastier, but it’s much healthier as well.

How Long Does Spicy Mayo Sauce Last?

Homemade spicy mayo sauce typically lasts for about 1 week when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

However, it’s important to note that the exact shelf life may vary depending on the freshness of the ingredients used and the specific conditions of your refrigerator.

Always use your best judgment and discard the sauce if you notice any signs of spoilage, such as an off smell or unusual texture.

Ingredient Substitutions

  • Chipotle Chilis in Adobo Sauce: If you don’t have chipotle chilis you can use Sriracha sauce.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: You can use white wine vinegar instead.
  • Mustard Powder: Use regular mustard instead.
  • Smoked Paprika: Regular paprika will also work well.
  • Chili Powder: Red pepper chili flakes work well.

No you cannot freeze this spicy mayo sauce because mayo separates when it’s frozen. The thawed out results will be grainy and watery. It’s best to enjoy spicy mayo sauce within one week of making it.

Is Popeyes Spicy Mayo Sauce Gluten Free?

Upon reviewing the ingredients in Popeyes spicy mayo sauce I can say that the sauce itself appears to be gluten free. But I’m skeptical to trust that since the sauce isn’t listed on their gluten free menu.

I could only assume that the sauce is cross contaminated by trace amounts of gluten due to one of the processed ingredients.

While a typical spicy aioli is gluten free I cannot say with certainty if the spicy mayo sauce is gluten free. So it’s best to avoid it if you are on a gluten free diet or have celiacs disease.
